The Faustian Bargain

The Faustian Bargain, or deal with the devil, invites the user to make their own contract with the demon Mephistiopheles. This project is a choose your own adventure interactive website. I chose to do this as I feel interaction is the best way to understand something, and by doing this I can encourage participation from the user and provoke thought, getting them to draw their own conclusions to the ideas at play. The story pathways are told through a series of conversations between the reader, the person making a deal, and Mephistopheles, the demon one sells their soul to when making a faustian bargain. The three paths the story can follow are the roads to complete fame, knowledge or power. The fame path criticises the modern Instagram influencer lifestyle, and draws the conclusion that they are actually the influenced. In the knowledge path you gain the realisation of the death of God (the rise of Atheism and the lack myth in people lives) and its consequences to the world. In the power path you can become the leader of a fictional nation known as the State. This path is a critique on two extremes in which power can be distributed.
