an gheabhróg

This publication and accompanying video piece tells the story of climate change through the imagined perspective of an arctic tern, which migrates from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back each year. The piece contains a series of articles detailing examples of environmental impact in locations on the terns route. A horizontal and vertical line on each page indicates the distance into the migration and the terns location, acting as a navigation system for the publication. The beauty of nature and all that is effected by human activities are represented by a poem, commissioned for this publication, which flows through the piece, ignoring the body text. The video piece shows an empty, man-made nesting site for terns, representing the imagined retrospective described in the poem, after nature has been destroyed. On the left and right, the typography of the publication is brought to motion and echoes footage of birds recorded in Dublin.
