‘Wo’ Cultural Centre

This project consists of the retrofit of the Odlums Mill in Cork, turning it into a Cultural and Community Centre open to everybody. Given a second chance, the former mill and warehouse now host various events and activities such as concerts, talks, plays, workshops, and painting and dancing classes. It also includes a café and an outdoor market space which keeps the building active and promote the integration of different age and cultural groups. The scheme integrates the industrial heritage of the building with the new cultural activities, which target all the community. The concept was born from the modularity of the Art Deco windows, and it evolved to represent the relationship between planes and frames, which in the building can be seen interacting with each other and shaping different areas. The materials combine an industrial look inherited from the building with contemporary and more welcoming textures and colors.
