Let’s Dance

Let’s Dance celebrates the history of Irish club culture and documents the persistence of its social aspect during a national lockdown amidst a global pandemic. The history of Ireland’s club scene is hailed in the form of a wheatpasted pop-up exhibition of posters and ephemera, done within the 5km radius of my home in response to the closure of gallery spaces. I curated the exhibition in a local setting so that it was exposed to a wider audience of all ages who may not be familiar with Irish dance culture’s history. I aimed to create a colourful, hopeful art display to brighten the spirits of the local community during an uncertain time. The current rapid changeover from clubbing to virtual parties on Zoom is documented in the form of a newspaper, its content featuring personal screenshots and conversations from Zoom parties attended by my friends and I. The aim was to archive this peculiar time in all of our lives so that in the future when people want to look back on or learn about the effect of the Covid-19 lockdown on young people, this publication may be of assistance.
