Faro

Winner of an IDI Graduate Award within the Interaction Design Category, Faro consists of a physical object featuring a light in the form of a lighthouse and an app that both acts as controllability for the parent and a helping hand for the child. The light house challenges the habitual familiarities a child could have/has developed with their tablet and develops more formality and respect for their tech use. The physical presence of the lighthouse introduces and maintains the notion of intervention to the child but in a more welcoming manor to show that it is more than just a screen blocker. One of the main features of the design are physical “tokens” alongside the lighthouse assembly. These act as the minimal leverage the child has in terms of their limited screen-time. With just 3 tokens to their disposal per week, the child can submit a token to their parent for extra screen time.
