Inter-generational Engagagement Space

My thesis currently is about dealing with constraints in organizing ‘Inter-generational engagements’. This could be because of space unavailability or simply because organizing one takes up too much of strategy and planning. Bringing together two different generations for a mutual learning, communication, fun, and play aspects has shown to be beneficial in enhancing a community all around with necessary inclusion of all age groups especially since this is something the urban society often ignores. Shared sites for these engagements as a concept is widely adapted and used because of its flexibility. Collaborations can be planned ahead of time keeping in mind the participants. It has been consistently seen they enjoy the activities together with varied interests, ranging from arts, crafts, gardening, food festival,film/documentary screening, game day etc to name a few. The images attached have a arrangement that has been individually designed and to be used as per space availability. An inter-generational event in this case becomes a contact zone but leaning towards a public space consumption approach. Invariably leading to reduced costs for conducting interactions and easily portable and assembled on site units makes this less cumbersome than the traditional methodologies. My vision of placement of these concepts on two live sites in Dublin was to indicate its portability and flexibility by including and excluding individual components according to the need of the event. This peg base board and the corresponding peg with the partition wall structures all can be assembled on site via transportation, though it would need volunteers help for setting it up on site but the reduced or nullified need for volunteers throughout the engagements between young and old can be seen.
