I am a Textile Designer based in Dublin. I received my BA(HONS) for Textile and Surface Design in the National College of Art and Design in 2021. My speciality is constructed textiles and colour, focusing on woven textiles and the innovative collaboration between craft and technology for both fashion and interiors. My work is driven by nature and biomimetic processes and I am very interested in applying new, experimental and unconventional processes and materials to more traditional crafts. ‘(s/b)ee, the alternative’ – see the alternative, bee the alternative is my graduate collection inspired by bees, their incredible UV vision and their importance to our eco system. ‘(s/b)ee, the alternative’ was driven by the innovative process of combining craft with technology. Through the exploration of a range of 3D technologies and methodologies, I have utilised various techniques which have been unconventionally applied to the construction of textiles and versatile materials to create three dimensional surfaces. By doing so, I aim to convey an alternative sense of reality to help alter and change the perception of the viewer. I invite my audience to a new world as seen through the eyes of a bee, which I have created though optical effects within my textiles which react to light and movement. Through the use of phosphorescent pigments, material experimentation and research, this collection reacts, reflects, absorbs and emits light, giving the textiles ever-changing iridescent and luminescent glowing qualities. As a result, I hope we can ‘(s/b)ee, the alternative’. Awards & Achievements for this project : Winner of the RDS Craft Award €10,000 Bursary 2022. Winner of the first award for Sustainable Design in the Student and Recent Graduate Category of the Future Makers Awards 2021 (DCCI). Winner in the Grand Final of the SDC International Design Competition 2020/21. Winner of the Textiles category for the IDI Graduate Awards 2021. Highly Commended for the NCAD Staff Choice Award 2020/21. Shortlisted for the Artsthread Global Graduate Showcase in collaboration with Gucci 2021. Shortlisted for the Lucienne Day Award 2021.
