biography
Kate Ní Thighearnaigh (Tierney) is currently working as a freelance graphic designer specializing in branding work, identity creation, & publication design.
She has been actively engaging herself in the graphic design world, after her BFA in Graphic Design with a minor in Fashion Studies in her undergraduate career at Columbia College Chicago she has expanded her freelance work from Chicago to New York City and Dublin, IE.
She pushes her love for identity and branding design to creating visually appealing concepts–with a heavy emphasis on photograph integration including type and experimental and contemporary styles. She works to use her experience in branding agencies and corporate in-house to contribute her own skills to the conversation and current movements in the creative visual landscape.

PUG is a contemporary art gallery in the Edgewater neighborhood in Chicago. The space is designed to provide resources in immigration to new citizens, additionally serving as a space to empower minority voices through art. I developed the brand identity and worked collaboratively to create visual assets and final signage and physical deliverables. Roles: brand guideline development and layout, flier design, signage design, social media design and strategy, project management, brand identity, logo rework, graphic design. Completed: spring 2024

I took on this project understanding the design and martial arts industries. Developing a new visual identity that updated the current visuals and feeling of their studio, and created a more sleek and modern take on a martial art that their clients can better relate to. The gradients implemented take the colors and orientation of the Korean flag and incorporate the colors throughout the new visuals. Roles: identity development, website design, motion graphics, social media graphic design, logo usage, physical design, poster and brochure design, information design. Completed summer 2023 & 2024

I had the honor of being included in the Friends of Friends design summit in Chicago Illinois, hosted by Mobile Makers. My publication, “Asking for It: The Culture of Rape in America”, was highlighted as a featured work in the summit, which featured designers across North America. Work on exhibition that called for social change through design and pushes to evoke thought on how the practice of design can inspire and promote progressive forward social motion. Roles: identity development, publication design, layout design, typography, social media graphic design, art direction, photography direction and manipulation, poster design, information design. Completed spring & autumn 2023.
